Crispy Salt & Pepper Chilli Tofu
Add a chilli kick to this classic vegan dish!
Ingredients
- 1 block firm tofu
- Cooking Oil
- Bunch of green onion (scallion) chopped
- 1/2 cup potato starch
- 1 tsp white pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt or adjust to your liking
- 6 cloves of crushed garlic
- 2 large red chilli
Instructions
- Place tofu block on a plate. Place the second plate one top of the tofu with a heavy object on top of the plate, I generally use a tin can. Apply weight on the tofu for around 20 minutes to release the water from the tofu
- Cut the tofu in cubes of 1.5cm and pat dry
- Combine cornstarch, salt and pepper together and coat the cubed tofu
- Heat oil in pan and slowly fry the tofu blocks until crispy and slightly browned
- Remove extra oil, only leave around 2 tablespoon of oil in pan, fry garlic, scallion and chilli pepper until aromatic
- Return the tofu to pan and give it a toss
- Serve on a plate and drizzle with our Chinese Chilli Oil
